Please note that professional fees for various procedures may differ, according to degree of difficulty. In order to provide a reasonable estimate, an assessment of the complete clinical situation is necessary to arrive at the best treatment plan. Often, extra effort is taken by our surgeon ensure the best possible outcome, and this may mean an additional step or procedure during surgery. This is reflected in the professional fee and may therefore result in some variation.
Allow us to provide an example of appropriate cost estimates. In order to achieve good cosmetic results, a surgeon may perform an additional remodelling procedure during a single operation like Dr Tan does, or ask a second surgeon to do a separate reconstructive operation after removing the unhealthy tissue. If the final cosmetic outcome is similar in both situations, one may wish to compare the cost of the first surgery with the sum total cost of the two operations that were required to achieve the outcome obtained with the first single surgery. The cost of a total mastectomy with immediate reconstruction is estimated to be between $16,000 and $26,000 for fully private patients at leading public (government restructured) hospitals. The cost of breast conservation surgery with remodelling is likely to be substantially lower than this. Therefore, if a mastectomy with reconstruction has been recommended for you, and you wish to consult Dr Tan about the possibility of breast conservation with remodelling, kindly call in person or make an appointment for a more detailed discussion.
Monetary cost is only one consideration in bill estimates. There are other costs to the patient following an operative procedure that that no amount of surgery can correct.
