MammoCare Events
In line with our emphasis on providing information, MammoCare screens videos for free from 8.45 am to 9.30 am every morning, Mondays to Fridays, except public holidays. Screening is open to all members of the public, and covers the life stories of women diagnosed with breast cancer.
For the months of March and April 2008, we are screening the short video clip entitled "Fighting for our Future". Following the synopsis, this clip is an intimate and comprehensive journey into the lives of young women courageiously battling breast cancer. Often told they are too young for the disease, women in their 20's and 30's are commonly ignored by medical personnel (definitely not by Dr Tan, as she has treated women as young as 19 years of age with breast cancer - with breast conservation surgery of course) and are most often misdiagnosed, even though 10 000 of them are diagnosed every year in the United States and they face a more aggressive breast cancer.
As part of the video, we will meet Tracy, a 33 year old mother who worries she won't survive to dance at her son'e wedding; Kelly, a 24-year-old who finds the courage to date even after losing a breast. Fighting For Our Future chronicles the inspiring stories of women who are determined to make changes to save lives.
During the same time slot, educational material will be made available for you reading pleasure. These are specially hand-carried by Dr Tan herself from the various countries where she attends breast cancer conferences, and are limited in number, so we ask your understanding to note that these videos and books are NOT for loan or sale. We at MammoCare hope to make these resources available to as many people as possible, and ask for your kind co-operation.
